Think Safe, Act Safe

Think Safe, Act SafeWhen QBuild achieved accreditation of its Safety Management System to AS/NZS4801, it was only the second government agency to do so.

The Human Resource Management Branch’s Bruce Symes and Susie Winckle were the driving forces behind this significant achievement, which involved many logistical and technical challenges, thanks to QBuild’s scope and scale of operations.

But certification was only the beginning of the journey. Since achieving accreditation, the team has turned its attention to promoting safety issues and a positive health and safety culture throughout QBuild, with a new suite of tools launched on 22 August at the Regional Managers’ Forum in Brisbane.

To facilitate these steps toward making safety issues second nature, the team joined forces with Business Development (Works) to produce a communication plan, new branding for the campaign and promotional items.

The centrepiece of the initiative is a safety brand and logo that will help increase awareness and raise the profile of Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S).

Important for several reasons, including moral and legal obligations to provide safe workplaces, the delivery of value for money to the communities and setting leadership in high standards of WH&S, the new campaign is set to achieve this by managing the health and safety risks associated with QBuild activities.

The new campaign has seen a suite of strategies being rolled out to help achieve these goals, with the branding providing a focus for these improvements.
