The Deed of Grant in Trust (DOGIT) Program is designed to benefit some of Queensland’s most isolated and remote communities by refurbishing derelict properties to provide short-term solutions for critical accommodation issues.
QBuild were appointed maintenance service provider in July 2006 for the New Housing Service Delivery Model Program across the state in 34 Indigenous communities. QBuild’s Cape York Region is responsible for 29 of these communities.
The DOGIT team’s dedication has resulted in the management of additional maintenance services of some 2,800 residences over the next two years, with a budget of $25 million.
Despite some initial reluctance, Councils have all since negotiated agreements. These same Councils are now delivering hundreds of thousands of dollars of maintenance work for QBuild to improve the quality and serviceability of their housing stock.
QBuild received the Partnerships and Reconciliation Award for their DOGIT program at the recent Department of Public Works Excellence Awards.
