How to Apply for Vacancies
QBuild advertises job vacancies through a variety of mediums:
- Jobs Online – jobs online is an internet site which provides details most of the vacancies available in Queensland Government Departments and business units with links to position descriptions and application forms
- Metropolitan and regional newspapers
- Government Gazette
- Internet – sites such as seek.com
Trade-based positions are advertised in metropolitan and regional newspapers in the trades section. You can also find out about vacancies by contacting your local regional office and asking for the HR Manager.
Applying for a Vacancy
Within QBuild, you will be required to submit a written application for each vacancy that you are interested in. However, depending on the particular position, the information that you are required to submit may vary.
With the exception of trade positions, most other advertised vacancies have a position description, and details on what you need to include in your written application will be specified in the position description.
Generally, your written application should include the following information:
- An application for advertised vacancy coversheet to enable you to provide basic personal details to the selection panel
- A current resume that summarises your employment history
- The names and contact details of two (2) referees who are familiar with your work performance and achievements (preferably current or previous supervisors)
- A copy of your academic qualifications, licences or certificates where applicable
Depending on the vacancy, you may also be required to submit additional information which may include writing statements that address the selection criteria, or writing responses to a number of specific questions that are relevant to the position.
The selection process
The selection of a person for appointment is based on merit. In this regard, selection panels may use a variety of different selection tools to determine the best person for a position.
If you are shortlisted, you will be interviewed by a selection panel. The interview could include a number of questions relevant to the position, an aptitude or ability test, work sample or a practical exercise that gives you the opportunity to demonstrate how you would perform an actual on-the-job task.
If you have any special requirements to be able to attend an interview, eg building access or communication assistance, please let us know at the time your interview appointment is made so that we can make suitable arrangements.
After the selection process, the selection panel may contact your nominated referees to verify the information that you have provided prior to making a final recommendation. No referee will be contacted without your prior consent.
Once an appointment has been approved, both the successful and unsuccessful applicants are advised in writing as soon as possible.
